Motorcycle Gear

Every rider needs gear. But with all the options of supplies out there, it can be tough knowing what to buy. Some products you should invest in. Other products will just end up sitting in the back of your closet. Here at Cross Country Cycle, we prioritize customer service and helping you get what you need (and not just what we want to sell you). We put together this guide of essentialย motorcycle gearย for those riding BMW and Ducati motorcycles. Stop by our shop near Staten Island, New York to pick up what you need to be ready to hit the road.

Riding Gloves

Gloves are great. No more sweaty palms trying to grip your handlebars (which is not only a comfort issue, but a safety issue). Better grip means itโ€™s easier to control your bike. Gloves also guard your skin from hot sun, bitter winds, or chunks of debris. Make sure your gloves fit snugly, as too much space makes it harder to hit the smaller buttons.

Riding Boots

Before riders hop aboard their BMW and Ducati motorcycles, they should throw on boots. Your feet need protection from engine heat, rain, wind, and debris. Plus boots give you the extra grip you need to get back up if your bike ever tips over (itโ€™s happened to the best of us). You can wear specially designed riding boots or other types of sturdy work boots.

Proper Outerwear

Itโ€™s a nice sunny day out? You still need outerwear! This layer of clothing guards your skin from sunburn and from windburn. Youโ€™ll want to protect both your upper and lower body. Proper pants also shield your legs against engine heat and debris. Search for products that donโ€™t trap sweat (the last thing you want is damp clothing sticking to your skin).

Neckerchief

This is an often overlooked piece of clothing, but all riders can benefit from a neckerchief. Between your jacket and your helmet, your bare neck is unprotected. Throwing on a neckerchief keeps your skin safe from sun and wind. On hot days, you can also dampen it to bring a soothing cool to hot skin.

Helmet

This is the most crucial piece of equipment, so take your time to find the right fit. Try on many different models, fits, and sizes to ensure yours works best. This is not an area to look for cheap products. Pay the extra money to buy a helmet accredited by a quality crash test agency. Motorcycle Riding Gear Tips from Cross Country Cycles

Eye Protection

Novice riders often venture out without eye protection – who wants to obstruct your view with the tint of sunglasses right? Wrong. You need it on the road. The glaring sun beats down on the landscape all around, which wears down your focus. Wind whipping about dries your eyes out, decreasing your vision quality. Flying bits of debris or bugs can hit your eyes (rare but it does happen). Eye protection guards against all these issues. Some helmets offer a face shield. If you can, use that. If you canโ€™t, throw on a pair of sunglasses or goggles. Make sure whatever you use gives you UV protection to shield your eyes from the harsh sun rays.
