Best Motorcycle Routes in New Jersey

Getting aย new motorcycleย is exciting and youโ€™ll probably want to show it off around town. But there are lots of other ways to take advantage of your newfound freedom. The state of New Jersey has lots of great scenic routes where you can take your ride and enjoy the fresh air and beautiful countryside. Weโ€™ve provided a list of some of our favorites, but Cross Country Cycle would like to hear a few of yours. Stop by our location near Bergen County and let our experienced staff know where youโ€™ve been and where youโ€™d like to go. We also serve Staten Island and Manhattan, New York.

Hunterdon County Roads to Trenton

Weโ€™re starting off with a long one, but youโ€™ll definitely want to take full advantage of it if youโ€™ve got a day or even a weekend to kill. We start this ride near the border in the small town of West Milford. Travel south toward Hunterdon County, riding through beautiful farming communities where you can check out some of the most beautiful parts of the New Jersey landscape. This area can be particularly stunning in the fall when the leaves are changing colors. Stop in Newfoundland to see the old train station featured in the film The Station Agent or tour the old mill in Clinton. Youโ€™ll also be passing a number of state parks that provide lots of fun and relaxing activities.

Once you hit Frenchtown, youโ€™ll start traveling east on NJ-29 toward the capital. Youโ€™ll be coasting next to the Delaware River, which will give you lots of great views. You can also pull over and take a stroll along one of the many footpaths, cross the river on one of the footbridges, or even check out an accessible island like the Bulls Island Recreation Area. There are other great places to stop for a bite to eat and to stretch your legs. Your trip will end in Trenton where you can do a little big-city riding. The entire route is over 100 miles long and, without stops, takes nearly three hours. We highly recommend you donโ€™t do it all in one go and give yourself plenty of places to stop and rest, especially if youโ€™re new to long-distance riding. Because of this, you can use this as a way to explore some of the best parts of our state as well as practice for a longer, cross country trip.

Touring the Shoreline

New Jersey offers a variety of views, but one of the most popular takes you along the coast. This is another longer one, so set aside some time to check out all the sights. Youโ€™ll also want to be prepared for tolls in some areas. We recommend starting in Allentown, traveling along I-195 E for a few miles before heading off the beaten path. The first hour or so will take you through some of the beautiful New Jersey countryside that weโ€™ve all grown to love and lots of small towns to stop and explore along the way.

But by the time you hit U.S. 9 S, youโ€™ll have unobstructed views of the crystal clear Atlantic waters. Follow Highway 9 south through Tuckerton and check out the Tuckerton Seaport & Museum. You can travel even further south to see Historic Smithville or the Absecon Lighthouse. Or simply enjoy the beautiful coastal scenery on a relaxing drive.

Batsto Wilderness Route

If you just want a route thatโ€™s fairly short that you can either amble through all day or spend the afternoon in a beautiful area, then try spending a little time on Route 542. This ride is only about 20 miles long and mostly wilderness views in Wharton State Forest. However, you can also stop in Historic Batsto Village for a look into this town that dates back to 1766 or take a stroll along the Wading River. You can even bring your fishing gear along to see if you can catch something.

Thereโ€™s lots to see and do here in New Jersey, so let us help you start exploring the many backroads and scenic routes in a new way: on two wheels. If youโ€™re looking for the perfect ride or need help narrowing down your options, stop by Cross Country Cycle near Bergen County, serving Staten Island and Manhattan, New York.
